Tach- green to tan+yel?????

I got a sunpro tach, and got the power to the tach, light works, but it doesent read rpm, it just sits on zero. I hooked up the green wire to the tan wire with the yellow stripe running through it under the dash but its not working. Any ideas?

On my '96 I tapped into a yellow/ brown or tan wire next to the fuse panel under the hood, worked perfectly.

Ok i got it all worked out and everything works as it should except for one thing... I have the wire for the tach light going to a wire that has 12v going through it when i start the truck up, so the tach light is always on. I would like to have it in the same circuit as the dash light dimmer control and have it come on when I turn the headlights on. What color wire would I need to tap into to do this?

I don't remember the color, but I tied mine into the lead for the radio lights. You should be able to pull the radio out easy and the harness is marked. It might be orange.......but don't trust that til you see it.
