Tach for Electronic Ignition Please Help!!!

what brand tach will work correctly with a DIS Ignition system. i tried one and i hooked it up to my van and it has a distributer and it worked but it wouldnt work on my truck. it was hooked up right and there were volts coming off the tach service connector, so what type of tach will work correctly, i have a 1990 ranger 2.3L 5 speed 2wd

I bought a 2 1/16 tach from www.glowshiftgauges.com. It didnt work hooking it up to all the wires that this site and any other site had said. If you wanna pic of where I hooked it up, let me know.
