Im planning on swapping my 2.3 turbo for a 302 as soon as it warms up. I want to keep a manual tranny, so i'm going to use a T5. Have any of you guys done this, and if so, what parts will I need to make it work? It's 2wd btw.

I'm also about to install, a T-5 into my 5.0 L ranger, the only problem i had is finding an adaptor so i could use my stock T-case. Other than that it should work fine.

Dewman,
Did you find an adapter? If you did, consider yourself lucky, they are really hard to find any more. Advance Adapter quit making the swap kit three-four years ago.

Yeah, the adaptor was very hard to find, the first one i bought didnt work. But my older brother found one for me.

I'm actually wondering about this as well. I'm fixing to start the swap for my truck as well. I'm just curious as to how much more the shifter might be back in the cab. And if there will be a need for a new crossmember to be made for the tranny mount.

Both of these are no big deal to me I've just been curious about these and would like to know what I'm in for

The T-5 shifter location is usually 6-7" farther back than the stock location. If you have bench seats or a console, can cause problems. Some have fliped the shifter handle around to help. Several have used the stock crossmember but added a thick plate to pick up the new trans mount. Cheapest hydraulic clutch that I have seen used is one from a 280Z. Fabricate the mounting bracket and get some hoses made. There are pictures around showing the set-up.

Yeah, pretty sure you might have to alter the shifter hole to get the shifter through the floor, but other than that I don't see why you'd have any problems. Being's your truck is and will still be 2WD, you won't need the adapter they're discussing. I wouldn't imagine the firewall is shaped wierd enough you would run into any problems there, but I couldn't say for sure. I wouldn't worry about it though. Should be a clean swap. Good luck with the swap, it's worth it :icon_thumby:

I take it the motor is coming from a Mustang along with the tranny?

If you have a bench seat it is harder to get into reverse fast. I guess this would depend on how far back you keep your seat for driving though. I had mine back all the way i think. Cant remember, it's been 11yrs. since i had my t-5 tranny.

Depending on what engine mounts you use, you most likely won't have to make a new tranny crossmember. I did'nt.

Thanks guys. I figured it would be further back just wasn't sure about how much more. I think I'm just gonna stick with the mech clutch in the T5. I don't mind mech too much.

I don't think I'll have a firewall issue since I have a 3" b/l but then again ya never know haha.

Yeah I have a split bench in my truck. I'll just see where the shifter comes out, and if it will be an issue then I'll prob just throw in buckets sooner than I planned.

The T-5 is coming out of a mustang and I haven't decided on the 302 yet. I do prefer the exp 5.0 cuz of the better heads and cam. And that would be a plus til I save for the 331 build up. But I love carbs much more for diagnosing and tuning so I'll prob just go with the mustang 5.0

Where did you guys get hydrolic lines for the clutch is there any that would work from a different car?
