t5 cable vs hydro

Got a 91 w/ a 4L went to m5r2 trans had them both on the floor the slaves were visually identical i never took measurements my stock master plugged right in and bled nicely. But the drive shaft shop put it up my ass friday said they wont be able to finish My shaft till monday i was really expecting to check my system this weekend but cant till mon i guess. with that said i really like mud and trails and hate crawling under a muddy truck half drunk at 2 in the morning to adjust my linkage to get back to camp. hydrolics the way to go!

Ok, Now I know why cables cant be used. I tore out the pedal assm on both the Mustang and the Ranger, and relized the cable bell crank has to sit up too high and would require exstensive modification to the firewall cowl area. I even mocked up a pedal assm, but even that would not work. Now I need some clarity on slave and bracket set ups, send them if you got em. Thanks, Don

These are not mine but items I had saved for reference, happy reading!

My truck was stock 5 speed and I prefer having a manual. So keeping it a 5 speed with a T5 was a no brainer. I never even considered an automatic and I haven't regretted that decision once. The effort of getting the tranny to work with the stock equipment was just a matter of making a plate for an 83-84 Ranger external slave cylinder to work with the stock clutch master and hydraulic line.

Master

Installed the 88 mc and a new 280 slave, benchbled it and installed and it worked great! Only had to preload a rotation or two on the nut from zero lash. Soooooooo much easier and less headaches to just pull the sytem out and bench bleed it.
To swap to the 88 mc I had to use a cutoff wheel to remoce the square hole the old mc locked into. I then made a cardboard template of the moutning flange to drill the two mounting holes. Everything else bolted right up.
Thanks guys!

I usually refer to myself as an old school type builder, that is I would rather go to the wrecking yard and find what i need or just build it. However today i have joined the "pocket book" builders club and just ordered every thing I needed to make this hydraulic clutch system work. The Mustang depot has a ready made bracket and hardware for $105.00 and Chassis shop has the cylinder for $56.00. I still need to get hoses thats pretty simple.I hope to redeam myself soon, I did use the mustang wiring harness, just modified it. Thanks for all the help guys! Don

i made my own because i wanted a cable clutch! and it workes awesome but i dont know how to post pics

Most people load their pictures to PhotoBucket, there is a "how to load pictures" up top I think. That for for the time being, e-mail them to one of us.

I have been running a cable for years... link below:

Yes, good job, it is not trivial to make a reliable cable setup but worth it in my opinion.

Did you have any problems with your reservoir being too small?
:3gears:

Sounds dirty, but no...
The size of the master and slave bore really has no relation to the reservoir, though. They just trade the fluid back and forth.
Most every common slave the we use and discuss is 3/4" bore.
