ok so i pulled my t case out of my truck (1989 ranger, 5 spd), and when i split it from the tranny, no oil spilled out. and then when i pulled the t case out of my parts explorer (1993, auto) a bunch of oil drained out. i heard there is supposed to be oil in there so is this a problem in my ranger, or is it just because it was a 5 spd an my explorer is auto so it would be different?? help soon would be great, im goin to put the t case in tomorrow. thanks

there is no seal at the end of the auto. it uses a paper gasket between the mating surfaces. you should be good to go.

id say go to a ford dealer befor you put it back in and ask them the same ?? and go to the parts store after that and get a new rubber gaskit for the range. let me know how it gose. im swaping the electric t-case in my 97 ranger for a manual t-case in the next to weeks(i hope)

Correct me if im wrong but i believe you have it backwards. I think it is the manual that has no seal at the back....and just a paper gasket. The reason i say this is because i just finished doing the clutch on my 93 4.0 5spd and there was no fluid between transfer and tranny, just the paper gasket.

there was a paper gasket on both, when i pulled the one out of the ranger, it ripped apart, it was dry, no oil came out. then i pulled the one out of the explorer, and it also had a paper gasket, and oil dumped out. they were both electric t cases. i think it would have to be because one was a auto tranny and one a 5 spd. anyways, i bolted the one out of the explorer into the ranger, an the gasket was in good shape so i re used it, seems to work fine, went wheelin and it worked good.

the 5 speed has a seal around the output shaft, the automatic does not.

end of story.
