First time user so bear with me please. Would a t-5 transmission from a Chevy S-10 fit onto a Ford 302? If so, where would I find an adapter plate?

You're going have to, at least better, use a T-5 from a Mustang. V-8 power demands a trans made for a V-8. The one difference between the chevy and Ford T-5's is that the cheby one has the trans rotated about 10-15 degrees to the passenger side to put the shifter in a better position. Stay with the Ford parts just for the ease of it.

Thats the other thing I wanted to ask about. The problem with a mustang t-5 is I have no clue where the new shifting assembly would come out at. I have a bench seat and would like to keep it that way, but I don't know how far back the t-5 would be in relation to the bench seat. That's why I asked about the s-10.

On my 86 i had t-5 and the only thing i disliked was putting the truck in reverse. The shifter would hit the seat. Other than that it was ok

with a gen 2 60/40 split bench its workable, as stego said, it only hits while shifting in reverse, but it doesnt stop it from going in, just kind of rests against the seat in reverse.

So, could you tell me, or try to tell me, the general location of the shifter with a t-5? I also have another thread labeled "Location of new shifting base". My truck is currently getting restored, so I can't do any measuring until I get it back.

The Hurst shifter and possibly all the aftermarket shifters have removable handles. Hurst has a huge array of different handles. If they don't have a handle that will bolt in then they are guaranteed to have one that can be easily modified to fit.

Sorry, not the handle, but what the handle would connect to on the t-5, in the floor, I want to know how far back under the seat would the shifting housing be sticking out at.

It won't be under the seat. It will be real close to the front of the seat though.

Aren't there like 3 different positions that the shifter can attach to the t5 trannys depending on the tailhousing?

The T-5 has only the one position, 6" back from stock location unless you do the S-10 tailshaft swap. That puts the shifter back in the normal location. The Tremec 3550 has (3) locations, the later 500 & 600 have (8) different postions. Have photos of all three showing the differences.

Could you show me some pics or some web sites where the pics would be available?
