So I just got a 2011 Ranger and The oil change schedule is 12000 kilometers or 6 months. So I want to run full synthetic oil What brand would you suggest?

Im leaning towards mobil1 since the interval isn't crazy long.

Basically any synthetic will do that no problem. Go with whatever is cheapest if you want.

Oil

Running Penzoil Platinum 5W20 in mine now, changed out at 2500mi. Some good reports over at Bobistheoilguy.com.

I have tried several synthetics and gotten used oil analysis on them in all of our cars.
Bottom line lowest wear metals ppm I get is with Pennzoil Platinum, which by the way is about a dollar less a quart than Mobil 1. Valvoline Synpower, Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, Castrol, Royal Purple, you won't go wrong with any of them.

Used Oil Analysis is the only way to know for sure. www.blackstone-labs.com, costs about $24. Try a few different ones and see what your engine likes best.

My Sport Trac calls for 5w-30, I run Mobil 1 0w-30 Fuel Economy Formula for whatever infinitesimal mpg improvement I might get from it. UOA's are fine.

That's a brand new truck. Did you get a service agreement with the truck?
Every new vehicle I have brought I always got a service agreement for 36 months and all service was free. Why pay for your oil?

no service agreement here in Canada. apparently I am supposed to be doing 8000kms/6mo on my truck since im in a "severe conditions" environment. but since my intervals are only 8k I think im just going to run the factory fill of 5-30 semi synthetic.

ive never heard anyone say use penzoil. valvoline all the way
It depends. Synpower and Max Life are very good, plain ol' Valvoline does not have as good an additive package as some other oils that often cost less. Pennzoil, Havoline, and Chevron use a Group III base oil which is nearly as good as a full synthetic.

Changing oil regularly is much more important than which oil you use.

Motorcraft Blend may be the best oil for the money there is. I have gotten UOA's on my wife's car with Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, and Motorcraft, each run 5000 miles, and there was virtually no difference in viscosity and wear metals. Therefore I use Motorcraft in it and spend half the money.

There is much info at www.BobIsTheOilGuy.com.

Im a fan of the maxlife myself. But I never drove a vehicle with less than 100000. The fullsynthetic valvoline is good.

I run Mobil 1 in my 2010 2.3L. I have used Mobil 1 in my vehicles since 1987 and have never had any issues. I also change it every 3-4K miles too. I don't care if it is synthetic it still gets dirty and black at 3K, so for me it's piece of mind.

I've been running 5w30 Mobil1 (the bottle that says SUV & Trucks). A 5 quart bottle is $23 at Walmart. As far as I can tell my truck is not consuming any oil and the oil doesn't get very dirty between changes. For the price I'm very happy with it.

I am running Amsoil 0w30 in my 3.0. When I do my swap, I am going to run Amsoil in the motor, trans and rear diff. I just a family discount through my uncle.

IMO, don't over-think it. I used to fret over different oils and search for the "best" ones for my other vehicles, but with my Ranger, I just stick with the Motorcraft stuff.

It's cheaper than probably most of the other oils mentioned here, it's a blend so that eliminates the need to decide between conventional and synthetic, and it's recommended by the dudes who make the damn truck. It works fine for me and I see no valid reason to switch.

Couldn't agree more.

I run both Motorcraft oil and filters, never had a problem with either.
