You are correct sir. Manual is something you operate by hand. Manuel is a guy picking fruit in Mexico.

Anyway, you need the transfer case, a shifter, a bezel/boot set, and a dremel tool with some cutting discs. Bolt the new case in with the shifter gate on but the shifter out.

Set the shifter bezel down, mark off the perimeter with a sharpie and cut the carpet off around that line.

Then start trimming the floor panel back until you can see the whole shifter gate.

Put your shifter in, and go to town.

I did this exact swap on my 88, and the only thing I don't have hammered out yet is the lights. I have not 4x4 tell tales and I'm not sure why. The transfer case I used came out of my Ranger, and I know the switch for the lights has some issues because the lights worked when they wanted to while it was in the truck. The truck's lights have worked perfectly since I put the other case in.

ads, did you plug all those pigtails from the E-case into the Manual case? i plugged them all back in except for the giant pigtail that goes into the shift motor and i've got 4x4 H & 4x4 L lights that turn on in the dash in between the tach and speedo. they never turned on when i had the e-case.

and manuel doesnt sell fruit, manuel operates the hedge trimmer in the landscaping department at work.

I did plug the speed sensor and 4x4 sensor back in. I know I don't have a low range bulb (I ran out of bulbs, but I will know about it if it's in low). And like I said, when that case was in my Ranger the lights worked when they felt like it, so I have serious doubts about the sensor.

Looking at the wiring it seems like all the wires should already be there, just the bulbs were missing.

thanks any specific year manual t case better than others?

83 to 87 had standard threads on the mounting plate, 88+ went to metric threads. 91+ with a 4.0 had a stronger case, but they won't be as plug and play. 87 back is the best bet.

Is the lack of plug and play on these universal or only relating to the OP 89 vehicle? I am thinking about doing this myself and a stronger case sounds better.

Your Explorer already has the stronger version.

The front driveshaft is different between the 1350 that the OP has and the 1354 that you have.
