Is there any way to bypass the lever you have to push to get the key out of the ignition? I have a 99 ford ranger 2.5 . Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Yup I think you can as I removed mine when I installed my cruise control and tilt steering just take the covers off the column and remove the lever and see if it worked

Yes.
  1. Remove the steering column cover (top especially).
  2. Find the black plastic lever that locks the key.
  3. Remove the lever from the steering column with a torx driver.
  4. Keep the lever and spring (put bolt back in hole with washers) in case you want to install it later.

The alternate is to file off the small bump at the end of the lever (column end) and put it back on the column. You can cut the end of the lever off as well. It looks original, moves like original, but never locks the key in.
