I have a 4x4 so I could not ultimately have a pre-runner. BUT I know people who have pre runners that take the sway bar off. What would this do for a truck with a lift? 4inch.

Well I just figured That it had to be 2 wd. for long travel suspension anyway.

You'll get a bit more flex. I've heard mixed reviews about it's on-road affects on the rig. Some say that it drives just fine, while other say it's scary to drive without sway bars.

4X4's can be prerunners. I am building my 2000 4X4 into a prerunner using the Dixon Kit. This is probably considered mid travel rather than long travel, but 14" of coil over travel is a substantial improvement over 6"-7" of tosion bar travel. The rear suspension options are wide open.

While the Dixon Kit will not work for your truck, I believe that there are true long travel ttb options out there.

As for taking the sway bar off, the truck will articulate better but will have increased lean in the turns. I do not run a front torsion bar on my truck and it has a substantial lean in the corners (especially as speed increases). The fact that my track width is 9" wider than stock helps to compensate for the lean, but I still need to pay attention to how I drive the truck.

4x4's can be prerunners, sometimes it comes in handy when you find a patch of silt

BTW, what on earth is a sway bar?

A sway bar is a bar that connects the right and left wheel (generally with the help of struts and/or links). It is intended to limit excessive independent movement of each wheel to improve ride quality (less lean in the turns). Ford Rangers come stock with 2 sway bars: one on the front axle/a-arms and one on the rear axle.

oh. I have A-beams though, not I-arms. I think i threw those out :)

I never really noticed a difference with my sway bars on or off on my 94 ranger. I think I eventually put them back in so my Dad would leave me alone.
My 2001 on the other hand has to have them on to feel some what stable but my springs at the time were a bit soft.
Bottom line is that that it depends on how you drive. I wont hurt anything to take them off and you can always re-install them if you don't like it. Just make sure to take it easy on the turns until you get a feel for it.

...

There are MANY fully built and more than capable 4x4 prerunners. In fact, some trophy trucks are also 4wd. You won't get as much travel up front, but chances are your not going to have to worry about being destroyed in silt either.

As far as having no sway bar and tons of travel..

nuff' said.

Uh tons of travel has nothing to do with that three wheel problem!:icon_thumby:

There are multiple reasons vehicles 3 wheel.. The main one being when the rear of the vehicle has more travel then the front.. 28.5" to 22" in my case. With no sway bar it didn't help, but the main reason was the spool. When the truck went limited slip, you can try as hard as you want to 3 wheel in my truck and I have yet to do it. But thanks Dave, I appreciate your input. ;)

Full spool in the wagon with 27" of strapped wheel travel at the rear and 16" on the front. Even when I had it strapped at 30 in the rear I still couldn't 3-wheel. Its all in how you set up the geometry! Its funny everyone that has rode in the wagon asked me "what kind of sway bar do you have?" I just tell them its an integrated one haha!:D

thats nuts.. no spool worked for me. I love the family wagon though.. def one of the nicest prerunners out there!
