I'm going to be picking up the 8.8 rear w/traclock. While I'm in the process of swapping my 7.5 out, what should I replace? I'm thinking shackles (I see they are prone to rot), leafs (appear to be OK) and shocks. (shocks are cheap enough, why not?) Anything else I should just do because I'm there and everything will be apart?

Also, am I better off replacing the rear end fluid on or off the truck?

I wouldn't replace anything if it doesn't need it. I've never heard of the shackles being prone to rot, but I guess it depends on where you live. I personally think it's easier to replace the fluid, while it off the truck. I'm not a big fan of hanging out under my vehicle, if I don't have to. Ha ha. My back and knees say "f**k you dude"

throw a set of rancho shocks under it, they make the truck asutally ride like a truck.

besides that, just make sure the seals are good on your axle.

This is my first truck. What do you mean "ride like a truck?"

I've had cars all my life and the truck feels ridged to me when driving. Not comfortable, but in the short time I've had it, it's been real useful.

Ideas on a more "comfort" centric shock would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at Rancho's web site, it looks like they only offer rear shocks. What would be a good match for the front?

Any idea what Rancho's site doesn't show a front set?

Forgot to add, I'll be installing a rear sway bar as well. I plan to pick that up the with rear end.

Will I ruin the u joint when I separate the drive shaft from the rear end? If not, should I replace it anyway?

You won't ruin the u-joint, but move it around and see how it moves. It won't hurt to change it, and if the old one's good you'll have a spare.
