i was wondering how hard it is to swap out my stock rear end off a 91 ford ranger with a ford nine bolt rear end and what differences would it make in driving thanks for any help

Lots of questions to be asked first.

First is why? What are your intents as to putting a 9" under it?

What width 9"?

It is labor intensive.
You will see no gains at all if its paired with a 4 cylinder or v6.
If you do a V8 swap you could rely on its strength.

97 explorer rearend installed on a 93 2wd Ranger

I recently installed an Explorer rearend on my 93 Ranger . What I gained was disc brakes on the rear , a posi rearend and 3:73 gears instead of 3:08 . The gear change equaled about a 500 rpm change and I have to run about 10 miles faster to maintain the speed limit .

Yep, all the 9" rears are wider, closest would be the '77-81' Versailles rear at 58". Pumpkins centered not off-set like a Ranger. Spring perches on the bottom and too far apart. Just find a bolt in 8.8 and save some money and be happy. I'm probably one of the few that doesn't see any cost benefit to swap in the disc brakes on most trucks. Several who have done it admit, the braking really didn't improve but it looks better.

Cool. Hes asking about a Ford 9" rear end though. ;)

the 9" is quite strong but most people myself included usually opt for the 8.8 so you will have a hard time getting info on this

I've got a ready to go bolt in 9" factory disc brake with 4.56s for sale, $700 and its yours.

But yeah, after running it, it's not worth it, heavy, expensive to maintain, and oh yeah forgot to mention, it's heavy.
