Swapping output shafts

Hi guys I own a 92 2.3 with a 5 spd. I plan on converting it to 4wd but i am having a hard time locating a 4x4 trans. I was wondering if i could swap the output shaft from 4x2 trans to a 4x4 one? prefferable a 2.9 since those trans are every where and i happen to have one sitting at my house and I have the manual t-case to go with it.

seems like i saw a thread where a guy did that. seems like it isnt cost effective to do it tho

just find a 4x4 trans you will have to take the trans completely apart put the new shaft in then rebuild it. if you were going to rebuild one anyway you can weight the options rebuild a yours and buy a shaft or buy a 4x4 trans and rebuild that.
