well since i threw a rod through my motor i thought this would a good time to swap to a 302..i am going to be pulling from a junk yard, i know nothing from my ranger's oringinal motor is going to work....ex.the wiring and computer and fuel system and so on...how hard is it actually to swap out the motor and what should i pull from the explorer in which i am going to get the motor from...and what year range would work better or does it matter..i have a 99 xlt ranger...any advice would help...

search explorer swap, find a wrecked ex, easy as far as swaps go .

Take home all the explorer home. You will always need a little something on it, a connector, a lil' bracket. I think you will need all the wiring, the computer, engine, transmission, t-case, fuel pump, drive shaft...... and more

i did the same swap last summer it only took 1 1/2 days pre ordered mounts, headders, and remote oil filter

Sparky's pickup isn't an Explorer swap like you're talking about. Expo's use a distributorless ignition.

You won't necessarily need a new fuel pump depending on what your plans are for it. However, you need to make sure that your fuel system 'type' is the same. Your pickup should be returnless, meaning that the fuel pump that's in the truck will only work (correctly) for the same type. '98+ will have the returnless type you want. However, return-style systems are typically used for higher horsepower/boosted applications, so if that's what you have in mind, get an earlier Expo and take the fuel pump with it.

Like Mudnsnow said, the best thing would be to just get the whole rig. There's lots of little pieces that you won't think about while your parting it out at the junkyard that will come in handy later. Thankfully you won't have nasty wiring problems since your swapping OBD-2 to OBD-2.

alright i appreciate all the help...ill keeping looking through the tech lib and ask questions if anything else comes up...thanks
