Swapping Explorer PCM and PATS into 98 Ranger?

We have a 98 Ranger 4.0 4x4 that was originally an automatic, but I swapped in a manual transmission last year after the auto pooped out after being rebuilt once. I've never gotten around to getting a matching manual PCM for it, so the trans light just blinks all the time, runs fine though.

I came across a wrecked 2000 Explorer Sport today, it has a OHV 4.0, manual trans, but no 4x4. It does have the key and all of its modules. I've read that the PATS can be wired into a truck that doesnt have it, and I'll probably hide the PATS key and sensor into the dash so the original key will still work.

Any possible issues to look out for? Is there any difference between 4x4 and 4x2 PCMs?

Thanks!

you want pats?

if you have a complete setup then its just that.

but...problems otherwise....yeah theres some potential for those.

I'm debating doing it this way and adding PATS. Or find a 98 Ranger 4.0 manual PCM, havent found too many and its been easier to live with the light than spend $100+.

Gotta love Ford for only making the 98 without PATS, and 6 different PCM codes for 4.0 4x4 manuals, makes it a PITA to find the right PCM to swap in.
