I have a 1988 ford ranger with a f6 axel. I picked up a 1991 f6 axel. It appears that everything is the same except that the 91 axel has electrict wire on the top of the axel. Does this engage the limited slip on the axel and if so do I need to supply power and install a switch to turn the limited slip on?

all that is is the sensor for the abs ring. you dont need to worry about it.. going to be a direct bolt in.. just keep the senor in an you will be good to go.. if you swap axles id suggest pulling the clutch pack out of your old axle an packing it into the new one.. make that l/s a bit better.

It's possible the pinion flange is different (bigger on the later axle). You may need to swap your mating driveshaft flange for it to bolt up. Otherwise it should fit. The later axle may also have larger brake drums too.

Thanks for the Info

I am going to start the swap this weekend. I hoping that the driveshaft flange will matchup with out having to make to many changes. :icon_thumby:

I did have to change out the driveshaft flange. Everything else was a identical swap. The brake drum size was the same. I am so glad that I swapped out the axel to the same and kept my ability to use my four wheel drive. It has been a very long very cold winter and I have used my four wheel drive more this winter than I have in the last ten years.

I am doing the same thing. Just leave the sensor out? Or do you hve to tap the new housing axle? Will the abs work without the sensor?
thanks

The ABS needs the sensor to function. If the ABS is important to you, you'll need to find an axle that has the sensor.

toddmoon, thanks for the update. Glad it worked out :icon_thumby:
