Just bought 97 ranger 4x4 with a blown 3.0 liter, got 2003 4.0 liter to swap into it,was wondering if there was anything I should be concerned with other than swapping the ECU .I would like to just keep the transmissions in the trucks and swap just the motor.

I believe the trans need to be swapped as well. Sorry.

thats gonna be a BIG can of worms. 3.0 trans wont fit 4.0 . 03 has pats system. sohc doenst clear the ttb crossmember, due to oil pan. you would have to swap a LOT of stuff to make it work. 97 has a return fuel system. 03 does not. i just swapped a 01 engine in my 99 and had a LOT of re wiring to do. you would be better to swap in a OHV 4.0 but you will also need a transmission.

perhaps if I swapped motor ,trans, fuel tank, computer and wiring harness I could make it work a little easier.
