swapping 1999 3.0 too 2003 4.0

So I was driving down the highway tuesday with my A/C running and music cruising around 65.....motor dies......try starting her and she wont even turn barely. Take the battery out and go buy a new one......still wont barely turn over.....try jumpin her....still wont.....I then take off the serp belt to make sure none of the accessories were tied up and they arent.....tried firing her up without the belt on and she tries starting.....so I tried again and it wouldnt and i pumped the gas a few times and it starts....idles ROUGGHHH for about 10 seconds and just cuts off again. Did I tie my motor up? I think I did. I have oil in her but I do know I need an oil change. could it be the timing? alternator? Any ideas?
If I did seize the motor I found a 2003 4.0L with only 27K on the motor....has all the accessories and everything with it but I dont think a tranny....will my year 3.0 match up to the 4.0? I can pick this motor up for only $700 so I am trying to get it asap. Please if anyone has any idea about my truck and the swap HELLPPP!

if it runs and doesn't make any noises, the coolant or oil aren't abnormally low or high, and its not smoking. your problem is not engine related. It's probably electrical in nature and any cheap OBD2 code reader will point you in the right direction. the 3.0 and 4.0 do not use the same bellhousing bolt pattern and a 2003 4.0 will not come close to dropping in, in any fashion.

well when I did get it too fire....it would barely stay running and then it cut off after about 10 seconds. I havent tried starting it again because I dont want to ruin anything else.
I found another 3.0L for with 89k for $900 so I am trying to get this motor to make it easier.
But if anyone wants a 4.0L with only 27k miles for $700 its in Lima Ohio in the craigslist ads.....thats a hell of a deal.

Have you ran any self tests on this thing? what makes you think that the motor is bad?

Well thats why I posted what happened on here. To see if anything of this nature has happened to anyone else. Also When I got it too run finally all u heard was metal clanking and then it cut off again. I am going through it on sunday to be positive...but I was posting my post for advice if anyone else had any suggestions on what too check. Thanks!
