Swapping 1998 2.5l for a 2004 4.0l

I am in the process of completely rebuilding my 1998 2.5l Ranger RWD 5 speed. I have 2004 4.0l Ranger I intend to strip the drive train out of and put in my '98. I'm looking for any and all advice I can get on the electrical side of this I am aware of the PATS crap ill have to deal with. I am hoping to use the '98 dash and have the ECU flashed to eliminate the PATS. So the help I am looking for directly is the wire harness I have both complete harnesses is there a way to splice them together or just using the '98 harness.
