a guy at work had a JET chip for a '92 4.0L man trans ranger. He gave it to me and told me to check if it would work in my Ex. I plugged it in and started it and the RPM's climbed to about 1500. No throttle response at all. I took the chip out and left the battery unhooked for about 5 mins. Hooked it back up and now the fuel pump won't kick on. I've disconnected the battery a hundred times and it still won't start.
I can put the chip back in and it will start but run like crap. Take chip out and my fuel pump don't kick on and no "check engine" light before it starts.

Any help?? Got a ride in the morning.

Well it runs now. Had to go get a new computer this morning and it fired right up.

My battery light is staying on now.

Check the 15A fuse in the fuse box under the hood.

Did you get this resolved?

Sorry, I forgot about this posting.

As far as "resolved" I would say yeah. I put the new JY computer in and the Ex runs now. I rode for about 2 hours with the battery light on and then after a trail break I started it up and the light hasn't come back on. I checked it with a meter and it's charging correctly, no fuses are blown. I guess the JET chip fried the original computer?? I called them and all they said was to send the chip in and they would check it. Didn't say squat about the computer I had to replace.

Oh well, it runs right now and I'll not be putting another chip in.

It reflashed the original computer with the newer codes from the chip. Problem is the codes integrate the chip to the ecu. So when the chip is removed its like removing hte programming from your computer. Glad you got it running.

Yup /\
AND just like any repair involving replacing vital electrical parts that send information to the computer you have to let the computer relearn before you call it a bust.
I would assume you have to ( this part is a guess ) clear the error codes the chip created during the initial start up.
