ok i have a 7.5 right now in my truck. i will be swaping in a 8.8. the guy i bought it from said it is from a 96 ranger. will i have to moive the spring pads and will my drive shaft bolt right up? from what i have read in the tech section it is wider then the axle i have now is this tru?

i will be doing this at the same time i repair my spring leafs(one broke on me passager side) i will be using exploader leafs.(ones from a 4 door 4wd)

you might need the Yoke for the rear driveshaft and a conversion U joint but otherwise it should be a direct bolt in.

the ranger axle is direct bolt on, spring perches are set up for spring over axle.

you're going to have a lot of problems getting the explorer leaves to work right, theyre arched for spring under axle.

By a lot of problems, you mean that you have to:
- clamp the spring pack together
- remove the center pin
- reinstall the pin the opposite direction
- remove clamps

That should take all of about 5 minutes each spring.

i have a 8.8 i got, anyone know a cheap diff cover? i would like to get a aluminum one but they are pricey!

if your trying to get rid of a plastic one that never seals, find an 8.8 from an f-150 their at least steel

as far as the drive shaft goes, mine had the companion flange on both axles, so it was a matter of removing 4 bolts, and reinstalling them
