Hey guys, found a sweet local deal on a pioneer head unit with the 6 disc cd changer in it. Getting rid of the factory am/fm radio in my truck is looking tempting...

I know that the 98+ units will swap no problem, but I've also read that this requires an external amp, and going from normal to "premium" has had some complications since Ford was a little complicated with their radio stuff. Will this require any mods? I was hoping for just plug and play, as this is only a bonus for me and I don't really have time for doing a wiring job. Thanks in advance!

Its plug and play. I did the same swap, so I highly recommend you do it, you wont regret it! You can get REAL good sound later on if you upgrade the speakers, but still, stock speakers and the 6 disc unit is still a great combo

As far as I recall, the Ford premium units had an amplifier located in various positions depending on the year. I didn't know if I had a "premium" system or not but somebody on here just said ohm out the speaker wires in the connector to the stock radio. If they're 4 or 8 ohms, you ain't got the premium system.
