I have a 96 ranger with a 2.3 and wanting to put this gt40p explorer motor in it. I've read that i don't need a conversion fit for the exhaust.... not sure if thats correct. Will the explorer factory mounts work? What of the wiring harness is needed? Also i found a link for a 1999 ranger3.0 but also not sure if that will work for my needs. Any help or advise will be helpful. Thanks for looking.

And read the piece on page one of this website, the HOME page.

There are many ways to do it.

You want Mustang motor mounts and oil pan.
Many vehicles share these same parts.

If you use an Explorer harness, it pretty much connects right in.
If you choose a Mustang harness and computer, buy the $25 Harwood manaul. (google Harwood Ranger)

There's a link in my sig to my build on another site, my truck is identical to yours.

There are pitfalls to the Ex stuff, but there are many options...

Welcome to the site!

Dunno if I was lucky or what....But my Explorer exhaust mounted right up....All I used were the manifolds and Cats. I used 95 Mustang mounts and a 93 Mustang dual sump pan.

my build is ALOT different but i had a junk b2 w/ a ticker and a 4.0 in my truck the 2.9 mounts were identicle to 4.0 and i built some engine block mounts to go to the 4o mounts all is well... (i do wish i made engine sit a fuz lowere but you live n learn) doubt this was usefull but somethin to consider. i got 4x4 to so that might alter some things. good luck

I found 93 gt mustang mounts. Will that work on the swap into my ranger?

Foxbody GT convertable mounts are what you want (flipped side to side), or SN-95 (94-95) which are the same thing.

Brand new they are $25 a side at just about any parts store.

The dual sump pan is pretty common, quite a few other cars use them too.

Dunno if you have found it yet, but there is a lot of info in here:
