I have a donor 97 explorer 5.0 I swapped the complete engine, tranny, wiring harness, comp into my 03 4x4 4.0 ranger. The problem is I seem to have a pats issue with my 03 rangers ignition. I cannot find anyone else asking about this question. Am I right in thinking that I can just wire a push button start since the Explorer ECU does not have pats? How else can I do this? I know if this was a 98+ ex I would have to go to a dealer for a reconfigure. Does this also apply with the 97 non pats ecu? I have looked at the explorer ignition and there is 2 wires where as the ranger with pats ignition has 4. Can I remove my ranger pats steering module and put the ex one in? What wires do i splice?
Heres some pics

Ok, so in theory if i purchase the 97 and 03 wiring diagrams I should be able to trace the wires and figure out how to bypass the pats on the steering column. The EX ecu shouldnt give me any issues...right? Isnt it a simple matter of giving the ex comp power?

I havent ran any new wires yet, all I have done in this swap is plug all the wires in as all the connectors hooked up.

This seems like the same thing as going with a stand alone system. My only problem is the ignition is not letting power through because of the pats module. No one has any advice?

After buying both EVTM for the ranger and explorer I have found out that all I needed to do was jump the starter and create a push button start. This was super simple once I found this out. The ranger runs now and still uses the original key and has the alarm system working as well. All of my gauges work except the oil pressure one, gonna have to trace that wire. The ranger runs pretty good, still need to extend my 02 sensor wires and hopefully it will run even better. Sounds good with the BORLA!

Hey i was curious as to how you made everything work? Are you running two computers or just the ex one? PM me if you can, i found a parts truck for sale that i would like to do the same on.

Same here on the wiring!. Been getting a '03' ready for sale because of all the wiring vs a 2000.
