Suspension Special Lift?


i get nervous when i think about a d28 with 35's...even on the street, not to mention off road....
 
Yes. The D28 is marginal even with the dinky stock tires, especially on a heavy Supercab truck.

You'll need a drop pitman arm and extended brake hoses to go with that lift.
Regardless of what anyone else says, or any marketing claims made about other drop arms, the Skyjacker pt# FA600 drop arm is the only arm available that's suitable for a 6" lift. NTW should carry that arm and the hoses as well, or you can get those items right here from TRS FAb & Offroad

Are you getting this lift mostly for looks? Or do you plan to actually wheel it? If you are thinking of wheeling it, I'd look at a Skyjacker suspension kit instead. You'll pay a bit more, but the brackets are much sturdier. The same will still apply about the pitman arm however, plan on getting the FA600 arm even if the kit comes with the shorter arm that's available (you may be able to substitute it and just pay the difference in cost).
 
personally, 33's would be the absolute largest tire i would ever dream on running on stock d35/8.8 axle setup... i wouldnt put 35's on anything other than a solid axle or d44 ttb...

33's are what im going to run on my explorer when its done, 35's just get too heavy (especially when packed with mud) and start eating parts like candy:headbang:
 
Been running 35s for years on mine (some here run 37s even, I've contemplated it as well). A D44 is not much above the D35... The common point of failure on either axle (the axle u-joints) is the exact same part on both.

The 31 spl 8.8" is good to 38" tires.
 
If you want to go D44 TTB, you could use much of the Skyjacker kit. A D44 solid axle won't use hardly anything though so that'd be a waste to buy the kit.
Swapping a D44 solid axle in is a custom-fab affair. Many people do it however because they feel the D44 offers more comfort in knowing it'll get them through whatever it is they're wheeling through. The D35 is certainly up to it just as well though too.

If you have the 2.9L and want to run 35" tires, 5.13 is the gear you'll want to have.

I would have no qualms with running 37" tires on my d35/ 31 spline 8.8.

Had 35's for 2 years, and now my 36" TSL SX's for 2 years without any breakage what so ever. No wheel bearing problems other than general maintenance. With a few simple mods, and knowing how to set it up, it is a very reliable set up.
 
I'm kinda new to this, so I want a D35, is that the same for the front and rear? and i'll want 5.13's in both also? And how much modification does a D35 take to get into a ranger?
 
the d35 TTB front axle will bolt right in where the d28 did. I would source one off a 91-94 explorer and take the 31 spline 8.8 as well. Then you will need to regear both axles and yes go with the 5.13s. Ive got 33s and never had a problem with shafts, when my mtz's wear out im looking to get into a set of 35s or larger. Theres a local guy I know running 38" Irocs on his TTB ranger and it'll wheel all day. Not saying it will hold up forever but driving style definately plays a role in how long your shafts will last.
