Would like to know what is the record in days, weeks, months......for driving with a "humming" front wheel bearing...? Just curious.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

That's a hard question to answer. Most people don't notice it right when it starts. Even less people record that day and count how long they drive it that way. Even when you do notice the sound, you don't always know right away that it's a wheel bearing problem.

And, the real record holders in this situation are the people who don't pay attention at all. They just get used to their old car making a new noise and drive along blissfully apathetic until it breaks catastrophically.

Speaking of which, I need to pack bearings on the F150

On the vacuum hubs, which I had installed with new parts, it took weeks for them to start whining and kept on that way a couple of years. Just converted over to the live axle setup...

And now I'm hearing all the noises I couldn't hear before. :D

Great replies, folks....thanx. Guess I'd better get to it.

Or in my case, new rotors pads hardware, existing warn manual hubs all back together, all kinds of happy! actually driving a truck I just bought for almost nothing a month ago. I hear some clicking clunking and then I hear a buzz coming out of a wheel!

at first I thought it was the clutch we didn't change because another engine is going in this winter. (Pre bled MC & SC, no play at all, releases a few inches from the top.

Be like WTF???
Bearings were repacked only thing I can guess, and won't know until the wheel is off again, the axle c-clip popped off and got caught.
