Got the 87 2.3 manual with a 87 Mustang 2.3 T5 manual fired up problem is it starts and idles GREAT but after about 5 mins the idle surges up in RPM's.If I shut it down and restart it idles fine for about 10 seconds then surges again.I'm thinking bad sensor? Air in cooling system? Any idea's? :dunno: THANX!

Still have not seen the light changed pcv and IAC and its still doing it ,does any one know if the sensors are diff between the mustang and ranger 2.3's?They are both 87's.Did notice that the temp & oil gauges were not working could this factor in? "Runs in the closed loop mode at start up then therm opens and sends hot water to bad sensor?":dunno:

Could be... the CTS(coolant temp sensor) could be different. start cros referencing part numbers on autozones web site, and go from there. o2, TPS(throttle position), map(manifold absolute pressure- I think 87 will be map and not MAF..). Also check the voltage on the tps and make sure it's in the right range.

Besides all that though, I'd also check for vacuum leaks.

Will do

THANX for responding il do that today.Wouldnt a vacuum leak factor in from the start?I replaced the map with one I had here and still doing the same thing.Cross ref'd the part #s and they're the same.Had a xtra o2 sensor but couldnt get it out of the manifold so left it in and scrapped it ."CH*T" :icon_cheers:

It's running great! Smooth as silk & excellent gas milage:yahoo:

What fixed the problem? My 88 has been doing a similar thing since I bought it 2 years ago.

Sounds like it was a MAP sensor...my Tempo had similar symptoms...and probably similar sensors...mine cleared up by just changing out the MAP (the one on the firewall above the heater box)...do not buy new ones...they can be found in any junkyard for next to nothing but cost close to $200 from a dealer (in Canada)...

Engine management coolent sensor

swapped out map did the same thing "surge" then did the EMCS sensor mounted on intake and cleared the surge.:yahoo: Hope this helps
