I was interested in the retractable interior cargo cover like my BIIs had and recently in the junkyard I found couple 1st or 2nd gen Rangers with them installed AND in the right color.

Question is; will they fit and operate properly in my '96 ranger?

Secondly; how do they come out? Any modifications required going from one gen to another?

Well, I don't know if they'll fit your truck. I installed one in my 06. To get it in, I had to remove a lot of interior panels. I removed the piece right below the rear window, and I completely loosened the 2 large side panels behind the doors. I didn't completely remove them from the cab because it probably would've been a huge pain, but it would've made it much easier to work on. The cover bolts to the rear wall of the cab using 4 screws. I used 4 large self-tapping sheet metal screws. The side panels need to come out because they sort of wrap around to the back wall of the cab and block the screw holes.

ExBass - Thanks. I also have an 03 std cab. I know that I need to take some measurements, but I was surprised to see the cover in the supercabs, I hadn't seen them before anywhere. Do the clips and everything work in your 06? Do you think it's worth the effort to pull these and if I was to pull both, do you think anyone else would be interested in the second one?

Yeah everything worked fine. 95+ interiors are all pretty much the same, and 93-94 are really similar except for the dash, so any cover from any year goes in easy. The only ones I'm not sure of are 92 and older interiors and covers.
I don't think you should have too much trouble selling them. They're not a very common part. I searched eBay when I got mine, and there were only 2 for sale, both from the same guy. I immediately grabbed one before someone else did.

My 94 actually has one, its nice for covering up my stuff.

I have one in mine. I didnt realize they were rare.

Thanks guys. I'll pull them both. I know that one had a good pull handle and the other's handle was not all there, but they both worked and are the tan color. Hopefully I can get to them before the crushers.

My 95 HAD one, but it had to go to fit the subs. it is now sitting in the corner of the shop.

Exbass - Thanks for the help. I was able to remove the first in about 20 minutes, and the second within about 10. The Rangers were '84s they came out of and they fit quite nicely in the '96. They're both tan which is the color of my interior.
PlumCrazy - The one that you have will fit all the way back to the 1st gens, they would just need the screw in clips from the older models. If you want to sell your blue cover, just let me know and I'll send you a set of the clips for the postage. They are brown though.
