what about throwing an older 3.8L supercharged engine out of an old t-bird? would it work? the engine is out of a super-coupe, and the drive train is RWD..just thought about toying with that idea... :icon_confused:

I would go the turbo4 route for reliability. The 3.8sc motors have HG issues as well as balancer problems. beyond that they are a cool motor.

I've been there, done the blower install and got the trophy. Doing a turbo is WAY easier!

haha thanks for the insight gentlemen..i am still having a tough time tracking down an engine ( i let a merkur go as i had other financial commitments and debts to take care of, f*ckin' life ), BUT the local wreckers have, i think, 2-3 of these engines (3.8L) kicking around, with a few of those cars as well. i really want the turbo though :headbang:

You'll be happier with a turbo for several reasons, not the least of which is you'll wind up spending WAY less money to make it work than I did. Also, if you're going to do an engine swap, it's probably easier to simply drop in a 5 liter than having to mess around with making a 3.8 work.

It looks like there's a lot of room beneath the hood of a 4 banger Ranger, but trust me in this--the room disappears quickly. What's nice about a turbo is that all the engineering has already been done, and there's quite a bit of experience in the Ford enthusiast community with 2.3 liter turbos.

As far as I know, I'm the ONLY person who has bothered with a supercharger, and it's taken me white a while to work out all the problems.

Just remember Robert, someone always has to go first.

Sigh . . . I'm a little tired of being a pioneer. Now it's finally done and I've just got to tweak the install to get rid of that vexing vibration!

I bet none of you turbo guys have to worry about rubbing against the heater!

well, my downpipe does hit the floor pan when i downshift, but that's my fault.

also, sometimes my passenger's heads hit the rear window, and that's my fault as well.
