:headbang:Hi again! A few days ago I posted here about my '92 2.3 w/A4LD suddenly losing oil pressure and the lifters chattering like crazy. I drove it like this for about 40 miles to get home. Lower end is intact; it runs smoooooth. The fix was a new 2009 Ranger 2.3 w/5-speed. I get it this week in NJ. :yahoo:

HOWEVER, I'd like to get to the bottom of this problem with the '92. What's wrong, besides a worn out engine? :icon_confused:

I've researched here on the Forum, and hear of a revised oil galley plug and pump for "91-92 2.3 lower engine knock. There is also talk of lost oil pressure with that pump. A great post exists here with pictures of this plug. Also, one owner says his 2.3 lost pressure when pan gasket pieces plugged the pick up tube.:icon_cheers:

"I'm going in there, and there is only one thing I want you all to do--talk me out of it." Ala, The Wizard of OZ.

I live in Downtown Baltimore, and working on my truck doing anything is no fun, working in the street. Cops: Son, your in a heap of trouble.:icon_rofl: Neighbor from Hell, " I'm calling the cops." :annoyed:

QUESTIONS (finally) This galley plug and pump change is on the '94s, and up, I guess. Rather than put money into this slug, I'd like to go to a junkyard and get a used pump from a post '93 Ranger or other Ford. What years, and how do I tell if it's a good pump? Also the pan gasket...how difficult is it to replace. I want to check the pick up tube and get a general survey of the interior pan condition. To tell of blow-by, aka engine wear conditions, of the engine I hear I can check the pcv valve for oil. This A$LD tranny has a modulator leak problem, and trans fluid is escaping the tranny for the engine intake manifold. Could this be causing an oil pressure problem? :icon_surprised:

Are there any other quick external checks I can do to see if this engine is roached already from high mileage? True mileage unknown.:bawling:

Thanks, guys. :headbang:

Well, well, well...

That great post I referred to above is located the next post down from mine. It's titled, "Oil Pump Question," by 93shortbox. It shows the two galley plugs.

Also, how difficult is replacing the oil pump once the belt is removed? Do I need a gasket or sealant?

thx agin!
