i currently have a 4'' lift on my 85' but i have the stock rear leafs and 2 blocks ( i know its bad thats why i'm trying to change this). my question is... what would be a better set up to remove at least one block per side. I was toying with new lifted leafs, but not sure as to which ones would be the best or extended shackles ect. if anyone has any insight as to which one would be better- i'm trying to keep the price low as it is a budget beater. the ranger is a longbed if that helps. thanx in advance.

I'd use some 4 door explorer leaf springs with an extended shackle, you might have to keep the stock block in there which is fine.

Yep, or you may be able to even ditch both blocks by cutting the eyes off your Ranger main leafs and putting them under the Explorer main leaf. It's a little stiffer though if you do it that way.

If you really want to keep it cheap, easy and not change the ride too much, get shackles and remove one of your blocks. You get to keep your height, loose a block and save time/money.

Remove a block, and get a add a leaf. About 70 bucks and 2 hours of your time!:icon_cheers:

thanx for that info guys. i'm not sure quite what i wana do but if i were to get ext. shackles where would be a good place to get some. i'm really toying with getting the explorer leafs since my local yard wants $30 a pair. either way i gotta get rid of these stacked blocks, scares the hell outta me.

Add-a-leaf and shackles maybe? Get rid of both blocks, but then you'll end up spending a bit more, plus you still have to buy new U-bolts.

is there any way to determine if a set of leafs are not worn out? i'm thinking of going to the local yard to pick up a set from a 4 door explorer tomarrow. yea getting the ubolts will be no prob, a local shop round here can bend up me a new set of 4 in about 20 min.

Look at your auto parts store, and online for Belltech 6400 shackles. They should run about $40-60.

so belltec 6400 huh. thanx for that, i probably wont beging the install of all this stuff for at least a month. thanx again

so i went to the local yard today and was unable to pick up a set of leafs, the damn people who run the place find it necessary to set every vehicle with the rear leafs on giant cement slabs :dunno: so that upset me, on the other hand i did get a spare set of front axle shafts from a exploder for $15 :icon_thumby: as for the ext. shackels, if i were to just get the belltec's would that be enough for me to omit one block without too much hassle? thanx -mike

Yea it should, they usually lift about 1.5-2" or so I hear. Plus it gives a bit more travel and articulation.
