I'm building a 302 powered ranger, and I have a C4, but my rear end is a 3.27 gear, and that is going to have my rpms running high when on the interstate.

what is a good transmission with od that would work on a 302, and not have a computer????

the engine and trans came out of a car that had a 3.00 rear end, and 13" tires.

thank you

I don't see that gearing being excessively low. What size tires are you planning on running? What is your % of city vs highway? It's always a balancing act with gearing so you need to know what type of driving you're going to be doing.
Edit; Sorry for not making a trans suggestion. I'm not that knowledgeable....maybe the AOD.

the rear tires are going to 275/60/15, and mostly country driving, very little city driving, and every now and then a good 4 hour trip to Nashville, tn. from White Pine, tn.

I'm just trying to get a good setup that at 70 mph, the engine will be around 2000 to 2200 rpm's.

I would like to find a 3.00 setup for the 8.8 rear end, but all I can find online is a 3.08. and nothing in a 2.xx gear.

Ford put 2.73s in the 8.8 in the fox body mustang.

Now this is something I needed to hear (or see in text), Thank you.

Now I just need to make a run to Pull-A-Parts and prey that there is a good rearend that I can get the ring gear and pinion gear out of.

once again thank you

if my calculations are correct, your tires are about 28" tall, and RPMs at 70mph with a tranny 1:1 final would be :

3.27 gear = 2750

3.08 gear = 2590

2.73 gear = 2295

that 2.73 gear will give you about 1310 RPM at 40 mph, 1640 RPM at 50 mph.
