Suggest an Oil Filter socket...

Hey I made it work you use the screwdriver to peel the filter open then use a flathead and hammer to chissel the rest off
That's how it's supposed to work right?

With the newer filters, pretty much. The old ones, before they thinned out the metal, the screwdriver work crank the filter off without shredding it.

I regularly change the oil in 3 different makes and models of vehicle ( '98 F-150, '87 Nissan D21, & '08 Corolla ) and can't remember the last time I've used anything besides my hands and an old rag to remove and replace the filters. I have had to use a latex sheet from the kitchen to get a better grip on the filter,

I have a claw-type filter wrench that I got years ago for another vehicle. It looks like this:

Also you can simply buy K&N oil filters that have a 1" nut welded on the end.
This and two 6" extensions, no problem. Magnets on the splash guard make the job much faster.

Whoa! Do tell about the magnets!

He uses some high strength button magnets to replace the plastic retainer that hold the rubber splash guard in place.

My 2023 has light grade threaded bolts to retain the splash guard. Easy peasy.

JohnnyO and mine has the push plug things with the screw in middle insert that strips out after one use.

AAR:

The new Oil Filter socket is great. No slip at all. Just changed the filter in less than 3 minutes. Worth every penny.
