sub with jumper seats

worked out the equation of my box (yes i am actually using math outside of school... WOW) and i'll post up how I did it here in a bit.. could possibly be stickied, or on the tech articles to figure out depth of a wedge box. i feel like it was pretty clever!

if you want text directions, let me know... it's very simple, and i have no clue how i didn't think of it sooner!

lol that just makes my brain hurt but hard/easy way is all about the person doing it.

I didn't read everything but why would you want to keep both of the backseats??

I put my sub behind my seat so nobody can sit behind me. If i had another sub I would put it on the other side so i can say, "sorry no more room i have a coupe". :D

some people are more considerate than you :) lol jk man... it's all based on needs... some people don't give people rides, but some people are somewhat "required" to.

it's just personal preference and such.

Ya i sorta have rules. Only girls can have 3 to the front seat and if somebody wants to sit in the jumper i always give them the old... Well, you can sit there if you want... but i wouldn't. haha

i just feel that my truck is too small to be hauling a ton of people.

not to mention it's only legal to have as many passengers as seat belts.

oh and nice math work by the way. I was always the kid saying why do we need to learn this? Im never gonna use it.

I think i would have just cut out some cardboard though.

i'm starting to think that my box may not work out... why is this so difficult?

Depths:
at 2 inches : depth of 6.538 inches
at 3.25 inches: depth of 6.25 inches
at 6.5 inches: depth of 5.5 inches
at 9.75 inches: depth of 4.75 inches
at 11 inches: depth of 4.46 inches

what is like an average magnet diameter?

considering the middle of the magnet will be at 6.5 inches high (centered), the depth is only 5.5 inches, if i did my math right(which it's fitting a reasonable answer, the higher up i go the smaller the depth is)

idk what to do... again, why does this have to be so difficult?

are shallow mount subs that bad? those seem to be the only thing guaranteed to fit... do i need space behind the woofer for anything? i know it's not supposed to touch the wood (the magnet is the very back part correct?) but do i need a bunch of space behind it? the actual magnet doesn't flex does it?

mad dia is nom. 6 inches, i measured a 12 kicker the other day.

yes the mag is the back, plus some have plates on the to look like but that marginal, the mag doesnt flex, the shoulnt really touch just due to wear on the sub and the box, but iv roto tooled out, a grove were the corner of the sub hit the box. but that was like an 1/8 of an inch,

well if the diameter is 6 inches, this makes the radius half of that, 3. and 3 inches (so about top of the magnet) is going to be situated at 9.5inches high, and I have 4.8 inches of depth at that height. so that means that preferably the mounting depth would be about 4.5 inches i suppose.. or smaller.

what number should i look at : top mount depth or bottom mount depth?

i suppose routing is an option, but i'd rather not you know? so basically though, if the magnet is .1 inch away, it shouldn't touch no matter how much i'm bangin? in theory of course, i'd rather have more of a seperation than that.

should i do any of these bracing? i was just going to put pieces of wood (small cube like) in all of the corners... but now after seeing all the types of bracing, wondering if I should do this?

dude i have looooooooookkkkkked at ever tec spec i could pull up on the internet, from everything to Bose and Boston acoustics, to RF and explodes,

the best mounting depth for a 12'' sub that i could find, was the kicker cvt at 4 5/16. the poineer super flat one only beat it by an inch, i think thats your best sub to make work, and now ill start working on your box issue to see what i can do about making the cvt fit.

since were talking depth whats your forward limitations ?

also let me clarify thats sticking to "normal" subs with "normal" price tags, i didnt look at the super flat ones:icon_thumby:

the cvt would fit then.... 4 5/16 ~ 4.3 inches, and if there is a 6 inch diameter magnet, it will fit and still have half an inch at the top (the narrowest part), even if it had a 9 inch magnet, it would still fit... is this a good idea for a sub??

MAX MAX MAX dimensions of box at 52" wide, 13" tall, 8" deep on bottom, 5 inches deep on top

but those depths are pushin it, as I will need space for flex!

yeah that's fine... since the "normal" subs will perform better

just realized all the measurements i used on my "math" were exterior dimensions.

so i suppose i'd have to take off 1.5" of each one to find the interior? i am using 3/4" mdf... think i could do 1/2"? or should i stick with 3/4"?
