hi all, i recently purchased a set of mtx 10in thunder 4000 subs along with a band pass box, thunder6500 amp, a cap, and anouther bandpass box with two 12in sony explode subs in it. i just tested everything and the amp, sony 12s, and cap check out fine. but before i purchased these items i noticed the right mtx looked and felt fine with no scratching throughout its stroke but the left mtx sounded like its voice coil may have gotten bent but i figured hey for 100$ for all it doesnt really matter. now i was taught to test subs you just hook them up to a house stereo and listen and while this worked fine for the sonys i couldnt get either mtx to make any noise. now am i doing something wrong or are the mtxs blown:icon_confused:, and is there any other way to test them.
thanks

i've never heard of using a 9 volt battery, but i could see it working... never hook them up to a house stereo. personally i would hook them up properly to test them.

Most car audio subs are 4ohms and home audio usually runs at 8ohms.

This could overload and destroy your home audio gear.

Did you remove the subs from the box? are they Dual voice coil subs or single?

The 9v battery will make them pop and as long as they do that most of the time it will work.

If not, find someone with a amp installed and just hook it up...most reliable test :)

thanks theyre single voice coil subs and i tried to test them outside of the box. what about a battery charger set at a trickle (2amp) on 6v setting and are you talking about the little nine volts for rc car remotes and stuf like that?

Yeah rectangular in shape, with the contacts on the same side. That how i was taught to test subs.

just tried testing them a lil while ago and while i found aas work to test them to. i also found that the one voice coil tore away from the cone and still have no idea on the other one but neither worked. do any of you know off a rebuild kit for these subs and if there is an affordable place i can send them to get them remaned?

Prolly not going to be worth it.

It will cost as much to get something like that rebuilt as it will to get new subs.
