Sub box for a ranger?

I'm looking at stuffing these in the rear lower corners and hoping for 1Cu Ft per. Maybe 3/4 Cu Ft if sealed. With a single piece of wood? Too easy, back to the drawing board....
If I remember right, Rockford Fosgate used to have a box builder thing on their site where you could enter sizes and it would tell you the cubic foot of air space and all. I used that for building my initial box

The shipping box is 100% labeled, including the tape, this company is all in. I really don't know what the namesake is all about "DS-18" but I'll say this- at $58 ea I'm in. Like the double stitch. At only 8 inches, they'll need to be brut. I opted for the 200w / 4 Ohm version which at that level I'm more than fine. Now to build a box that won't upset the really nice rear now that the jump seats are gone and there is lots of really nice space.

The proposed box is 2.75 cu ft & goes across the entire rear left to right, is 10.5 inches deep, and 14.5 inches tall. Now to find my envisioning glasses somewhere around here....

seems like a large box for 8s

It is, ended up with a 50" long, 10" front to back, and 13" tall. Tuned for 33 Hz and does it sound good!

Does Not hit, clears about an inch, never lay back that far anyway.

Installed some 1" thick strane board used for roofing behind the plastic cover which I installed "nut rivets" (rivnuts) to then use 1/4-20 hardware & toss the plastic push buttons.

Need to source some "riot covers" to protect the cheap $58 speakers.....

I dearly love my Milwaukee jig saw.

The Atoto S8 head unit maps out the Sub response bandwidth and gain. Will post a pic. Looks like a fuel curve. But listening to the Doors, (where I grew up) in Chatsworth where all those bands used to hang out, gave me chills. No real distortion at 20 watts RMS for the front & rear, and some (?) 450 watts max RMS for the sub. These 8" wolfers are rated at 200w RMS each. 2 Ohms at the amps output. Going to install some handles (that don't vibrate) for pulling out & doing whatever. Used one of my 30 amp relays that I collect from my junkyard crawls for my direct to battery/fuse isolation with the relay's coil connected to my ignition +12v circuit. The stock Ranger speakers sound good with their low frequency duty lifted from them.

Crossed at 30 to 100 Hz, no boost. I believe that a high "duty rate" with low dynamic range has long been my "trick" to giving good sounding music from my day what it needs to keep sounding good. Now I needs me a knob. Connects to the amp for local adjustments. It's not really loud actually. No one really hears it. Just right for this truck. Yes the box is a little big. The lows are incredible for 8 inch woofers. Thumbs up for the "DS18" line up. The amp is a walmart unit, class "D" LDMOS. $100 bucks I think. Scored a gallon bag of "very badly soldered monstored cables" at the Goodwill thrift store, thank you very much.

i always pull wires from the junkyard. tons of cars in there had systems and they always leave the nice fat gold tipped wires in when the car goes to the yard.

An idea for a pair of 8 inch'ers I saw recently. 13 inches to the rear of the console is all there is. This may be excessive but need to do the math & see if I can get 2 cubic ft. Been busy with the local festivities. Man, I really want to toss a few $$ for some nice drivers, but.....then there is that real nice 12 SPL unit I have.

What I'm learning is exactly what I presumed....2 smaller drivers will have more efficiency, and less deep bass. I want a wolfer, & a subwoofer. That has less uneven spots, that a pair will deliver. But a 12" right behind me, sheesh. Purchased a sheet of 3/4" sawdust sheet. See what happens.

Actually, you can port an 8" sub to get some extremely deep bass. It's becoming the thing to do, now, because of how small the box can be. They are about 1 cubic foot.

Tuning it depends on the type of music you listen to. If you nice the dip, between 40hz and 50hz, you will see that there will be a inconsistent bass. When you get to about 30hz, your bass will have more punch than the bass between 35hz to 55hz.

Yep! The curve drops off like a dead fly on the 4th of July. 12db/octave is a good slope, these days with these newer OP amps it's more like 20db/octave. So tuning this ported box needs to extend out the lower response as far as not only as you can hear but as far as you want to feel. 33Hz. This box is only 2.75 Sq. Ft. but enough to have a nice effect with the cheap high excursion woofers $58 shipped ($300 total cost). With the newer MOSFET amps, subsonic issues are really a thing. Had to adjust mine out, still getting close. Got some covers (jail bars) coming. 8 inch never been so nice :)

It looks really good! I can't wait to get my kids system completed for his truck. I just gotta get this stinking thing running right first.

Well Clegg, you are both extremely lucky to have each other and a healthy challenge to go along with it.

The thing I learned from doing this install (I've done a few) are these little $58 / 8 inch woofers & the cheap 100 buck walmart amp. Works for what I'm doing, not any sort of competition setup, but the wife likes it! Sounds as good as anything at low volume. Thx for dropping by and keep us updated on the Kid's new system too-

I used to be a custom car audio installer/fabricator. I have been out of the game for almost 14 years, but I miss it. Anytime I get the chance to get into it, gain, I jump on it.

Here is a pic of my last big install.

Wow, talk about a paint job porn in the morning. Black rock? Used to know Bruno well in Gerlach. And his "country club". Thanks for the pictures, I can only imagine what level the sound system is. With air suspension.

The amps, you see in the bed, were $2000 each. The components in the doors were a about $800 a set. There are 3 JL Audio 12w6 subs in a ported box that sits in the bed and fires into the cab. It was a very expensive install.
