hey guys ive got a question.. ok i was out smowmobiling today and came accross an 89-91 style ranger beat all to hell way out in the woods been there AWHILE its got bushes growing through it all kinds of stuff wrong with the appearance of it but... its an STX now does the STX package have the 4.0?? cause im wondering if it would be worth my time to see who owns it or the land that its on and seeing if i could get it for parts for mine (axles, rims, tranny, motor parts, ect.)

so i need to find out the year? just check the sticker in the door right? or i guess i could just open the hood and if it has the 4.0 would mean its got the dana 35 and 8.8 right??

Easiest way is to have a boo under the hood. Could be the 4.0L or the 2.9L

Not not necessarily yes it will have a 28 spline 8.8 but I'm about 90% sure it will have the d-28/35 hybrid axle not a true d-35.

The 'hybrid' D35/28 didn't come out till the 93-97 years.

I know that.

I was stating that there was not one of these hybrid junkers in an 89-92 truck period.

And yes, 93-97 all 4 bangers and some 3.0L's had them.

CORRECT!

The "Hybred" D28/35 axle simply did not exist before the 1993 Gen3 trucks

So there is ZERO danger that a Gen2 STX has a Hybred.

1989 and 1990 model year Rangers (WITHOUT a 4.0 engine) produced BEFORE December of 1989 would have a Dana28 axle

4.0 1990-92 and ALL 4x4 December of '89 or latewr will have a "real" D35

But remember that a 1990-92 STX would not necissarily have a 4.0 engine and if it has a 2.9 it'll probably
have a 7.5" rear axle.

The only thing you can be reasonably sure of is that there are no 3.45 ratio axles in 12-89 up Gen2 4x4's

Because there is no 3.45 axle ratio for the D35 front axle.

Look at the axle code if the axle code is 92 (3.27) 95 (3.55) you know that it's got both a D35 and
an 8.8" axle because these are 8.8" only ratios.
