84 ranger with 2.8l starts and runs fine but cuts out at random times while driving. it does it while driving at all speeds and sometimes just once but gets frequent at other times. seems like ignition to me very sharp cut out then right back to normal. new fuel filter, pretty recent cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs. it started doing it after beating on it and getting stuck in the snow. im thinking ignition module??anyone else had similar problem?:icon_confused:

mine was a bad fuel filter at the pick-up in the tank. tank was dropped and filter taken out completely. an inline filter was put in the fuel line under the cab so it can be easily replaced. good luck with this for sure.

oh, and Welcome to TRS!!!!

.

thanks. yea i wondered about the tank sock. almost seems to me like it has to be electrical the way it cutts out so quickly and comes right back. kinda like you turn the key off and on real quick. i got a friend with a new module im going to try hopefully in the next day or so.

If you can pull codes it would be a good place to start. Usually the module (I'm talking TFI) either works completely or fails completely.
Don't discount a bad ground somewhere - the grounding system is as important as any part of the wiring.

ok i found a faulty plug wire that didnt look healthy. changed plugs wires and cap and rotor and it seems to be running smoothly. the plugs were extremely lean looking very clean white. the brake booster seems to be leaking you can hear it whistling under the dash and goes away when you press the brake pedal so i am hoping a new boosterwill seal up the vac leak and get it richened up a little.
