how exactly do u calculate a crawl ratio???

This is from the Wild Horses website......
How low can you go? Take the lowest gear in your transmission and multiply that by the low gear in your t-case and then by your ring and pinion gear.

Example 1: NP 435 first gear is 6.69 x 2.34 in your T-case x 4.11 ring and pinion = 64.34 which we would call 64 to 1. Not bad.

Example 2: Now let's throw in a Dual T-case. NP 435 first gear is 6.69 x 2 in your Super Crawler x 2.34 in your T-case x 4.11 ring and pinion = 128.68 or 128 to 1.

(Transmission First Gear) x (T-case 4-LO gear) x (Axle Gear)

If there's a doubler, also mulitply by the doubler's gear.

I.e.,

Transmission: 3.25
Doubler: 2.48
T-Case: 2.48
Axle: 5.13

3.25 x 2.48 x 2.48 x 5.13 = 102.54 final crawl ratio.

so, for me, it will be 6.69x2.34x4.56(if i regear the rears to 4.56)=71.38

but right now without regearin my crawl ratio would be 56 to 1, would that be pretty decent for the ocassional rocky trail(i normally dont do rocks)

Well, crawl ratio has never been my problem in dealing with rocks. I don't think it's your first problem. Ground clearance is the first problem. I usually get hung up. Big tires and a low CG so you don't tip over and flex to keep the weight and traction distributed, and of course lockers. I would put a crazy crawl ratio last on the list.

One of the best pickup trucks I've seen in action is redriverrangers. He has 38s and D60/9" full-width. For power he has a 4.0, C5, 13-54, 4.88 axles I think. That's it. That's a measly 30:1 crawl ratio, but that's not what you are thinking about when you see that thing in action. He's made it up the center of Purgatory at Attica with it.

56:1 should be fine for all around wheelin. Many of my buddys are around that.
