As some of you know I'm now working in a local junkyard, that aside...

I saw a CJ come through today, had a 4.2L I6. On that 4.2 was a Clifford Research 4bb intake, an Edelbrock Performer carb, and a Clifford Research long tube header. You just don't see that kinda stuff around here.. Anyways, the motor mounts and header were torched, and the intake and carb got ruined by the poorly placed chain the pulled the engine via a skidsteer. The worst part is I told them what it was before they did it. Some guy in Venezuela pays $80 per each carb'ed engine, that's alot better than the potential $500 that setup was worth...

You don't even wanna know what good RBV parts get ruined by the day...

It's so hard to work in a yard and see all this stuff just gg to waste. They don't even know what they have, I asked the office about a Explorer disc 8.8, they looked it up in the computer, then told me they had none. I went backin the yard and proceded to find 11 of them, 12 including one that was bent from a wreck.

Just imagine how many Manual 1354s, Ranger GTs, or 4.10 D35s were lost this way...

OK done, that's my quick rant.

Get out and check your local yards.

it happens, Junkyards in general are pretty idiotic. the one near me can't seem to settle on prices for parts, you can go there one day and buy an axleshaft for 40 bucks and go there the next and they will try to charge you 120 for the same part.

I dont even call them anymore, more often than not they don't know what they have, as you saw. I just show up and look around if they're the kind of yard that allows that, and if not I don't bother showing up.

yup....

sadness

I just went looking for a manual 1345 the other day and was surprised to find that almost no one has rangers or explorers. I was talking to one guy and he said that a ranger will last at most a few days in the yard before it gets stripped to the frame.

So very true, most of the Rangers in our yard are B-series trucks. 4x4 Rangers don't last here in the yard more than a week at the most, 4x2 trucks last just a little longer.

I've seen similar stupidity and you just gotta shake your head...but I've also found some great parts...and seen some nearly new stuff that you wonder what the previous owner was thinking when they scrapped the car...

Oh, and I was talking to this guy about buying two doors from a bII that were in mint condition...forgot about it until one day I drove by the same place and stopped...I had offered him $200 for both doors but he wouldn't take it cause he wanted $600 for the whole truck (but the doors were the only thing good)...

The day I stopped in I asked him if he still had the BII...nope, he said, I scrapped it...so he got maybe $50 for the whole truck...

I know I F***n hate it!

The worst part is that around here the yards dont stock any rangers older than like 95.

Last time I visited the local yard they were getting pretty thin on Gen I and II Rangers too...haven't been for a while though and I need a backup battery...they usually charge $25 for one...might go down at the end of the month to see what they've got...

I was at the bone yard today grabbin a spindle for my gmc. I hate to see some of the stuff in there, so much potential.

Yeah, the yard I go to used to be a U-pull-it, but now they've changed and even though I know the guys there really well, they only let me go into one part of it, and it only has maybe 10 RBV's... Out of those 10 they are all pretty much just a frame... Out of the entire yard, they claimed they had 1 (yes 1) 4.0 engine with, get this 270K miles... It used to be their lot truck... That's why I left it...

It is starting to get tough to find decent stuff here in az too,

everytime i go to ecology or the other u pull its there always seems to be half of what i want or just a component here ant there.. right now im looking for a decent mopar 360 block.

Junkyards are gay. I have bought more stuff from random people's backyards and gotten way better deals. All the yards around here except for one have either a bunch of old broken shit or only 1-2 year old stuff. And they want a small fortune for all of it. So these days unless I absolutely can't find something elsewhere or new, I don't hit the junkyard anymore. It's just not worth it.

There is a yard there in Pheonix, I went there alot when I lived there. I forget the name, but all they have is late model Fords. That place was great, also the only place in Pheonix that ever had D28 axles.
