Hey ya'll I need to know what would cause the blinker in my 99 to not work. When I first push the blinker on, it just blinks right once or twice and then just stays on continuously instead of blinking. Ideas?

This could be any number of things. It could be a bad blinker relay; poor connection TO the relay (ie corroded); fried voltage regulator; bad alternator; bad battery; overall poor connection (battery terminals corroded)... the list goes on.

An easy way to figure out if it's the voltage regulator or the alternator or the battery is to apply a little throttle and then turn on the blinker. If the blinker starts blinking like it should once you give it some gas then it's one of those. If it doesn't it's probably the blinker relay that's cooked.

I had a 1990 F-150 XLT Lariat that had a bad alt and it was so bad that even the hazards wouldn't work right unless the engine was at half-throttle or better. I replaced the alternator and everything was peachy.

if wiggling the multifunction switch can make it work, remove it and lubricate the inside with a chemical like deoxit. the contacts are prone to having issues. also try to turn the 4 ways on and off some times that can fix erratic sw issues

The blinker relays are usually on or close to the fuse box. They may be on the back side though, the Emergency Flasher relay on my 88 is on the backside of the fuse panel and it has to be removed to get to it (2 or 3 screws).

Before going after ANYTHING else, make sure all the bulbs work.

Almost all the time, a dead or nearly dead bulb is what causes steady blinker problems.

There is only one flasher unit on RBVs, so ANYTHING flashes (both turn signals and the 4-way flasher), the flasher unit is just fine.

I'm never one to disagree Mike, but mine has 2.

No, the 4 way flashers do not work either. They stay on for about 10 seconds and then the lights just stay on, like markers instead of flashers. Also, it is worse in hot weather. That is why I think it is the flasher relay.

I have tried that trick with the flashers, and I do not want to have to take off the whole steering wheel just to lube that thing unless I am abso sure what is wrong.

m/f switch is easy to remove

to remove the m/f sw you only need to remove upper and lower column covers and then the two torx screws from the left side, the two connectors and your out. like 15 mins tops
