Alright i got an 8.8 out of a 98 eddie bauer explorer axle code D2 so i know it has a l/s....

Now to my stupid question.... What are the wires coming out of the top of the differential?

Is it the l/s? does it have somethin to do with the AWD? Ive just never seen that except on an electric locker...Im sure its obvious ive just never seen it.

any insight appreciated :dntknw:

it's not for the LS.....the LS is mechanical. it's goes to a speed sensor

oh ok....so i can just unplug the connector and not have any problems?

ABS sensor to be exact, some models doubled as a VSS...
SVT

yeah you can. what are you putting it in? my bronco 2 has one in the same place, so i'm just gonna plug it in when i install my 8.8

its going in my 2000 3.0 4wd.... the 7.5 in it doesnt have one....is it supposed to?.., the truck was bought brand new from the factory...did they forget something? haha

it was probably just changed by ford at some point. my b2 is an 88 and the explorer 8.8 is from a 92, so they may have kept some of the stuff the same

you'll be fine without it, just unplug it and leave the sensor in the housing

Yes it does have one. The VSS is in the rear diff of your truck. You need that sensor.

thanks for the help...this is the first time ive actually tried to do a project the "correct" way so alot of it is new to me....
I had an 86 f-150 in high school without even an inch of lift and ran 40s on it thanx to my sawzall lol....i was an idiot back then

its possible i didnt see it when i looked....are the connectors the same from the 7.5 to the 8.8?
