Stumble When Cold

Greetings Gents,

I'm noticing an issue with my 94 4.0 then it's cold soaked. I've had the truck since the spring and didn't notice the issue all summer. Now that it's getting cold in eastarn Virigina, I'm starting to see this behavior.

Truck starts up and idles great. When I put it in gear and begin to let out the clutch and apply the gas, the engine stumbles after moving a few feet. It's usually running fine until I've gotten out of my parking place and half way into the street then stumbles. :annoyed:

If I don't anticipate it and apply more gas than otherwise needed, it cuts out. I can also keep it from cutting out by pressing the clutch in at the right time. Once I've driven the truck for about 100 or so feet, it won't happen again until it's cold soaked.

During the stumble, I've noticed that my battery gauge goes way low.

So far I've replaced the airfilter, cleaned the MAS, and replaced the TPS with no resolve.

Any ideas on what's going on here?

Check your IACV. Sounds like it could be one of your problems. And your battery gauge would drop because the truck is idling to low to make a proper charge.

I had this same story with my BII. Bought it in summer, drove it, and when it got cold out it would stumble and miss until it got warm.

It had a bad plug. I'd start with a tune up, since you have already done the unlikely stuff.

Thanks for the replies guys.

As to the plugs, I forgot to mention that the previous owner had a full ingition tune-up done about 3 months prior to my purchasing of the truck. I have the paperwork for that and it shows all new plugs and wires but it'd be worth double checking.

I'll test the IACV and see what I find.
