I am in the process of fixing a problem with axle shaft play on my 88 ranger. The last person who had the locking hubs off did not replace the snap ring and washer that keep the axle in place. After much searching, I managed to locate the washers one in state and one needed to be shipped. Anyway, pulled the rotor, reset the berrings and all that. Put it back together, I may have put the washer in the wrong position or it may be the wrong one I'm not sure. hard to tell from the exploded view that I have. It is back together and there is still play. Any ideas or hints would be a huge help. The other part is due tomorrow.

Thanks..

If this is on the '88 ranger and it has the D28 still in it, there should be 2 washers. A smaller washer with no splines in the middle goes on first. A torrington bearing goes second. A larger washer that is splined goes third, then the clip. If the bearing inside the spindle is bad, the washers and t-bearing won't fix the problem.
I would ship you both washers, Torrington bearing and a clip for $10. PM me if you want them.

As in the shaft wiggles around? Normal. The locking hub supports the outboard end of the shaft.

Thanks for the replies. The movement on the shaft is in/out and there is a gap on the back side of the pass side knuckle.Normal?

No.

Like was said, you need a flat washer, the torrington (thrust) bearing, then another washer with splines in the center to fit over the shaft spline, then the c-clip.
