Stuck in the mud with 4x4

Found out the hard way 4x4 isn't working... When I engage 4x4 I get the light on the dash that says it's on, I get the lower gear but the front wheels aren't going, (they still move but when stuck not all four wheels were turning) a friend helping said the thing that makes the 4x4inthe front was spinning but not spinning the wheels. Had the hubs locked too... ???

Are you sure the manual lockers are working right? (I'm assuming manuals when you said you had the hubs locked....)

if one hub is bad then you'll have this problem when you have an open diff in the front....

so you might want to rebuild your hubs with new seals/bearings and inspect the hubs while you are doing this to see if you have shrapnel coming out when you disassemble.

if that's not an issue then check by sitting your truck on jack stands in the front put the transfer in "N" and lock the hubs... if one tire spins you are fine...... if not your diff is bad... sorry bout your luck on that one... I rebuilt a front diff before... it takes a long time if you've never done it before.

One thing I did that was a duh mistake, make sure that when you turn the hubs, that you are actually turning them to lock. I had one of the stupid school kids lock my drivers side hub and I did not know so I turned the hubs and unlocked it instead of locking it.
