stuck in fourwheel drive

89 ranger 2.9 5spd manual shift 1350

it snowed here the other day and drove to work in 4hi before that it was in 2 wheel now it shifts into 2 wheel but is stuck in 4 wheel so jacked up front and the hubs unlock and wheels will free spin and also loosened the bolts on bracket for linkage for transfercase and by hand pushed it as far as it would go on transfercase but the front driveshaft wont freespin, I have not yet drained fluid to see if it is burned. any ideas? thanks

well just a follow up, I took the linkage all apart and shifted the transfercase by hand back and forth thru all gears and was able to free it up and sprayed some lube juice on the joints of linkage put it back together and works fine now.

How do you take off the linkage? my 84 wont shift back into 2wd using the shifter
