Stuck Bolts!!

I love my impact gun. Has never let me down. And if the bolt or nut is stubbron to come off, I just lay on the trigger till it gives. It is an Ingersoll-Rand 231H with 600ft/lbs. I mostly use a 1/4" air line for home use, but switch to a 3/8" air line when I need more torque (or up the pressure to 150 PSI for even more torque). Normally sells for $150US, but I got it at $100US becuase it was in the wrong display.

250 is nothing, you can make more torque than that with a tire iron. Mine is rated at 600f/lbs and still has trouble every so often. Get a good size cheater bar and throw your weight on it.

I went out and baught a foot and an half braker bar from craftsman its a life saver get one of those and as topher said use some French and put your back into it and you should get'em off. but use caution you can easily stip the square hole on the bumper. In which case you use some more French and reley on your trusty visegrips to lend a hand...:icon_thumby:

You know, to quote Jamie Hynamen from "Mythbusters,"

"When in doubt, C4!!!!"

Granted, it'll destroy the truck, but al least the bolt won't be an issue any more!

We have a winner!!

I cant grind it off as I don't have an angle grinder. I'll get a good 1/2" ratchet and as long of a breaker bar as I can find and look for that stuff at ctire, and then just use the impact sockets for now with the ratchet to save a bit of money

get the biggest, most obserdly sized wrench you can find, and be sure to concentrate when doing this next part, aim, and THROW THE SUCKER AT THE BOLT!!! should work if you concentrate hard enough >.>

This is probably the way I would do it too. I have an air impact that only puts out 450 ft lbs so sometimes I have to break out the breaker bar or a cheater pipe to get the job done. Of course my pickup is quite rusty so often this ends in a broken bolt so I have to resort to my angle grinder or a drill to get the rest of the bolt out.

I got so tired of having to run to the store to get replacement hardware that last time I just went and bought $40 worth of assorted bulk nuts, bolts and washers. I hope that lasts me for a while. :D

I'd like to replace my impact with what LearjetMinako has, the 1/2" IR 231 impact or even better yet, a 2135 series  but there's no more room in my toolbox or in my budget for more power tools.

Yeah trust me some bolts can get really stubborn.

Infact I was trying to get out one of my bed bolts and I had an electric gun that got out 4 of the 6... Then I switched to that ingersole with 600ft/lbs and that got #5 but the 6th bolt was stuck so we broke out the Snap On heavy duty gun that puts out over 1000 ft/lbs and it stil didn't break it loose, with the 2 ft breaker bar it came out though.

If you want a REALY good impact for pretty cheap, look at an Aircat. I bought one 3 years ago and it was rated for 1000ft/lb loosening torque and 200-800ft/lb of working
torque.

It was only like $200 from the toolman

By far the strongest impact ive ever used. and its very quite, which is another feature i like. Blows any IR or craftsman out of the water

my buddy just bought the new model call a Nitrocat. 1200ft/lb of loosening torque

I'm not knocking your tool, but I thought this was a funny picture. Anybody see anything wrong with it?

Kinda looks like he's trying to take an alternator bolt off with the lug nut-sized socket.

Wow, from what little I know about air tools thats pretty impressive, especially for the price. Anyone know if and where its available in Canada?

Still like the torch. Once you get one red-hot, it'll spin off with ease, no matter how rusty it is.

Although I suppose you could heat it up, then hit it with that cold stuff that was posted earlier, should make it easy to just bust the nut off...
