i need to remove the u joint from the passenger stub and slip yoke. is this possible to do while its still in the diff?

if not do you need to do anything to the left axle shaft to get into the diff?

Its do-able I've heard....but its a royal pain in the butt. Might be alot easier with a vehicle lift.

You would need some big C-clamps or a press kit from an autoparts chain (to rent).

The left side axle shaft has no c-clip (since it doesn't change in length like right side axle shaft does as the suspension cycles). And thus it will come right out after you disassemble everything down to the knuckle. You do not have to drop the diff to get it out.

The right side axle shafts will not however, unless you have done the c-clip eliminator mod (which I suggest you do for next time).

I've done it using torches to cut the trunion of the U joint apart so I could remove the outer shaft from the inner. You them just have to knock the U joint caps out of the ears of the yoke. Let it all cool down and you can install a new one using a U joint press. It's best to do it on a hoist...either way it is a royal pain in the ass.

Do it right, pull the diff and do the e clip eliminator mod with a spring and be done with it.

well i have the truck lifted off the ground at least a foot so there is room. its just a pain in the butt to get the press in there.

so i guess that means i gotta crack open the diff..

i just have to drop the drive shaft and remove all those bolts correct?
and as for the c clip mod. if i was going to be doing hard core wheeling all the time and risk breaking it i would do it but i'm not, and i don't ever plan on touching that axle again except to grease my new u joint

also. do i HAVE to take out the left side axle shaft to get the right one out?
