ok guys im gonna try and explian this best as i can...on my 97' ranger when i would roll the window (power windows) all the way down and then try to put it back up i would hear this loud ratcheting sound and my door would vibrate and the window would never come back up...so i took the door panel off and saw that the teeth on the end of the regulator were stripped off..so i went and bought a new regulator and motor and installed them..the window went up and down fine and now its doing it again!!! i took the door panel back off today and my one week old regualtor is stripped AGAIN!..so obviusly something is causing this to happen..

Also my window is out of alignment and has been for a long time..its when i roll the window up right before it reaches the top it tilts forward leaving a gap in the back of the window...to prevent this i have been holding the window towards the back of the door to make sure it seats properly and dosent allow itself to tilt...i think this alignment problem may be the reason why my regulator keep stripping out?

I tried aligning the window once but it didnt work..could anyone give me some detailed intructions on how to do this? or maybe even some pics of which bolts to loosen? here is a pic of the broken regulator and the window tilt..the parts store is warrantying the regulator and will have me a new one in the morning but it dosent make sense to install another one if it is just going to strip right out again...please help guys.

Stripped Teeth on Regulator (Its hard to see but the 3rd and 4th tooth r stripped completely off):

stright from the Haynes Manual

Windos Adjustment;
1. Lower the glass two-three inches from the full up position.
2. Loosen the three guide assemnly nuts and washer assemblies.
3. Push the glass toward the rear until it bottoms out within the door frame.
4. Move the widow guide post toward the rear within the rention slot in the door inner panel. Tighten the three guide assembly nuts securely.
5. Rise and lower the window several times and check for proper fit.
6. Install the water shield and door trim.

Hope that helps.

thanks man! i have that manual haha...i should prolly read it to locate the right bolts...do you guys think this would cause the regulator to strip out?

i hate this god damn manual, its garbage. Im getting the Chilton tomorrow, a much better manual. It is a good possibility thats whats causeing it. If the window is off track when it gets to the top, it will misalign the teeth and wham, broken tooth or two. I'd definitly align the window before putting another regulator in. good luck

i believe i tried this alignment methos last time and it didnt work at all maybe i didnt loosen all the bolt i dunno...will try tomarrow morning..hope it works..thanks for the help..anyone else feel free to chime in.

well i installed the new regulator and tried to adjust the window by loosedning the three bolts....and.....NO LUCK! this this is pathetic horrible design by ford thats for sure.

You could always just say f*ck that door and find a color matching one at a local salvage yard lol.
