Stripped Power Steering Pulley Install Threads

Help! I cannot get my power steering pulley on my 98 2.5 ranger, the threads to pull it on are stripping out of the new PS Pump.Any suggestions on what to do?

I've got the same problem, and I really don't want to replace the pump since its painted and chromed.

I'm going to chase the threads as best as i can, then install the tool with J.B. Weld and possibly even tack weld it in place. Once the pulley is on I will cut the tool off flush. Obviously I wont ever be able to replace the pulley again, but its worth a shot.

To ensure I have enough room to cut the bolt off, I bought a bolt much longer than is supplied with the tool. That way I can back the press off enough to get in there.

worst comes to worse idk how much larger you can go but you may be able to drill and retap the hole larger and use a larger diameter install tool. dont feel bad i bought the tool and broke the dam thing off inside my new pump as soon as i got it all the way on. when this happened my wrench slipped and broke the radiator upper hose neck on the surge tank, so i got to change the radiator the same day, lucky me.

Well my idea worked for the most part, until the bolt freaking broke off. No problems at all with the jb weld holding the bolt in the pump. If you go this route, get a very strong bolt
